Installation Art - Las Plenas de Antonio Martorell
Publicado en la categoria de Exhibiciones en July 7th, 2008
Antonio Martorell draws upon the graphic portfolios of his teachers Lorenzo Homar and Rafael Tufiño, adding the subject of music and dance of the Renaissance. His images display a visual rhythmic intertwining of forms, colors and words. Among the more than fifty pieces we point out those depicting plena dance themes dedicated to the female judge, the pope, the flavored crushed ice vendor (piragüero), the female preacher, the top model and the printmaker.
“Las Plenas de Martorell” is a complete installation that includes verses inspired by the artist whose humor and satire make reference to the principal personalities of our society.
This series was created at the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey, in the artist’s workshop at Playa de Ponce and at the Hostos Community College in New York where an edition is on a permanent exhibit.
Petrus Gallery also presents a number of pantings and mixed media art works by Antonio Martorell on the second floor.
